"Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge."

    Proverbs 23:12

In May 2013, thirteen-year-old Arvind Mahankali correctly spelled the word “knaidel” (a German-Yiddish word for a dumpling) to win the 86th Scripps National Spelling Bee. Mahankali had finished third each of the two previous years. In both of those years he was eliminated when he failed to correctly spell a German-derived word. In preparation for his third attempt at the prize, Mahankali diligently worked to strengthen his area of weakness. “This year I prepared German words and I studied them, so when I got German words this year, I wasn't worried," he said after his victory.

No one has yet invented a way to magically acquire knowledge—or anything else worthwhile—without effort. If we are going to learn what we need to know to succeed in life, whether in our ministry, our career, our family, or even our hobbies, we are going to have to devote the time and effort required to gain the skills and knowledge we need…and then continue to devote the time and effort required to maintain what we have learned. Renowned concert pianist Vladimir Horowitz said in an interview that if he skipped one day of practice he could tell a difference in his performance. If he skipped two or three days, other top-notch pianists could tell. And if he skipped a week, members of the audience would notice.

We need to take learning seriously. A person who is dedicated to acquiring skills and information on the job will quickly stand out from his peers. A parent who is serious about gathering the tools to more effectively meet his children’s needs will reap great benefits in his children. And a Christian dedicated to studying and applying God’s Word will gain wisdom. We must obey the admonistion of 2 Timothy 2:15: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

    Today’s Proverbs Precept:
Take the business of acquiring and applying truth seriously, and you will be on the path to success.

    Psalm 33

    PSALM 33

1 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. 2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. 3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. 4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. 5 He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. 6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. 10 The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. 11 The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. 13 The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. 14 From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. 15 He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works. 16 There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. 17 An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. 18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; 19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. 20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. 22 Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

    PSALM 34

A Psalm of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed.

1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. 3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. 4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. 5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. 6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. 8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. 9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. 10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD. 12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? 13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. 14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. 15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. 16 The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. 17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. 20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken. 21 Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate. 22 The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

    Acts 24

    CHAPTER 24

1 And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul. 2 And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence, 3 We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness. 4 Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words. 5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes: 6 Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law. 7 But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands, 8 Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him. 9 And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

10 Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself: 11 Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship. 12 And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city: 13 Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me. 14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: 15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust. 16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men. 17 Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings. 18 Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult. 19 Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me. 20 Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council, 21 Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

22 And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter. 23 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him. 24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. 25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee. 26 He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him. 27 But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.

    Proverb of the Day
    Proverbs 23

1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: 2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. 3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat. 4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. 5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. 6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats: 7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. 8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words. 9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words. 10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: 11 For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee. 12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge. 13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. 14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. 15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. 16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. 17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. 18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off. 19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. 20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: 21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. 22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. 23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. 24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. 25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice. 26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. 27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. 28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men. 29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? 30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. 31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. 32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. 33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. 34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. 35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

    Skipping the Thorns

    By Paul Chappell

      Monday, Jul 22, 2013

"Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them."

    Proverbs 22:5

If you have ever picked blackberries, especially wild blackberries, you know two things. First, when they are plump and ripe and juicy, blackberries are delicious. Second, picking them can be painful. Blackberry bushes are scientifically known as brambles—they are thick and thorny, and the berries are difficult to get to without getting cut up. This is why in the 1920s scientists began work on creating a truly wonderful invention—the thornless blackberry bush. These varieties now offer the sweet and succulent blackberries without the thorns that made picking blackberries so painful.

The obvious question is: Why would anyone deal with the thorns if there was an alternative? The obvious answer is: They wouldn’t unless they either didn’t know there was an alternative or unless they were foolish. The same is true in life. The Bible tells us that the way of the forward—those who are stubbornly determined to go their own way rather than God’s way—is filled with thorns. Yet it is possible to avoid those thorns by walking in God’s way instead.

Of course we realize that as the old saying goes, “Bad things happen to good people.” That is a result of living in a world that has been cursed by sin. But there are specific painful consequences that naturally occur when we decide that we know better than God how we should live. People sometimes say that they are being judged by God for doing wrong, but in most cases they are simply experiencing the pain that God’s Word warned would come when they go their own way. Though these thorns and snares are real and present, they can be avoided if we turn far away from the wisdom and pleasures of the world and follow Christ.

    Today’s Proverbs Precept:
Rather than foolishly insisting on going our way and suffering the consequences, we should gratefully yield to God’s plan.

    Old Testament Reading
    Psalm 31

    PSALM 31

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. 2 Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me. 3 For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me. 4 Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength. 5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. 6 I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD. 7 I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; 8 And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.

9 Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. 10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed. 11 I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me. 12 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel. 13 For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life. 14 But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God. 15 My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me. 16 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake. 17 Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave. 18 Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

19 Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! 20 Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. 21 Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city. 22 For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee. 23 O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer. 24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

    PSALM 32

    A Psalm of David, Maschil.

1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. 3 When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. 4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. 5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. 6 For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.

7 Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. 8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. 9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee. 10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about. 11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

    New Testament Reading
    Acts 23:16

16 And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul. 17 Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him. 18 So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee. 19 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me? 20 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly. 21 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee. 22 So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me. 23 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night; 24 And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor. 25 And he wrote a letter after this manner: 26 Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting. 27 This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman. 28 And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council: 29 Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds. 30 And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell. 31 Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris. 32 On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle: 33 Who, when they came to Caesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him. 34 And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia; 35 I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.

    Proverb of the Day
    Proverbs 22

1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. 2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all. 3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. 4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life. 5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. 7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. 8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail. 9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor. 10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease. 11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend. 12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor. 13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets. 14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein. 15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. 16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want. 17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge. 18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips. 19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. 20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, 21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee? 22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: 23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them. 24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: 25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul. 26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts. 27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee? 28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set. 29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

THE PREACHER IS WARNED ABOUT FALSE DOCTRINE

    1 Timothy 1:1-11 Paul an apostle of Yahvahosha Messiah by the commandment of Yahvah our Saviour and Sovereign Yahvahosha Messiah, which is our hope; Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Unmerited favour, mercy, and peace, from Yahvah our Father and Yahvahosha Messiah our Saviour. As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightiest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather that yahly edifying which is in faith: so do. Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully. Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the unrighteous and for sinners, for unrighteous and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

    I. Paul an apostle by the commandment of Yahvah. vs1

A.Preachers are called and appointed by Yahvah.

1.Because of all the false preachers who enter preaching as a profession for the prestige and money, it sometime makes people suspect of real preacher called of Yahvah.

    2.In Verse 1 and 12, Paul states the it Messiah who commanded him and put him in the ministry. Vs 1,12 Paul an apostle of Yahvahosha Messiah by commandment of Yahvah our Saviour, and Sovereign Yahvahosha Messiah, which is our hope. And I thank Messiah Yahvahosha our Saviour, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me in the ministry;

3.Ac 20:28, states that the Holy Ghost made the pastors in Ephesus overseers of the assembly. Ac 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the assembly of Yahvah, which he hath purchased with it’s own blood.

    B. Many time I fear many in the assembly are not aware of this aspect of a pastors calling.

    1. When Yahvah calls a man into service, whether it be as a pastor or any position it is not optional. When Yahvah commands, Yahvah expects man to respond.

a.Jonah, when called of Yahvah ran from the calling.
    b. Yet Yahvah brought him to his knees and Jonah finally accepted Yahvah's call to go to Nineveh.

2.Many a man called of Yahvah to be a pastor has refused. Some of the most miserable men I know I believe were called of Yahvah and yet refused to respond.

3.Folks the True Gospel preacher and pastor is where he is because Yahvah commanded him to take the position. Had he not responded, what miserable creature he would be forever out of Yahvah's will.

C.Dr. J. Vernon McGee, says "this was why Paul could walk into a synagogue or go before a gainsaying audience in Athens or a group of rotten, corrupt sinners in Corinth, and boldly declare the Gospel. He was a soldier under orders, an apostle by the commandment-not by commission, but by commandment.”

Any man who is going to speak for the Eternal today needs to do it with authority or he ought to keep quiet." (J. Vernon McGee, I & II Timothy, Titus, Philemon page 21)

D.Timothy was instructed by Paul, under the inspiration of Yahvah, to "let no man despise thy youth"1Tim 4:12 and "neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee."1 Tim 4:14

1.In 1Tim 4:6, His job was to put the brethren into remembrance of these things...

1 Tim 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Yahvahosha Messiah, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

2.In 1 Tim 4:13, he is told to give attention to reading to exhortation to doctrine.

II.THE WARNING ABOUT FALSE DOCTRINE. 1 Tim 1:3-11

A.Paul told Timothy he was to stay in Ephesus and "charge" some to that they teach no other doctrine.

1.Paul left him in Ephesus that he might, command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor devote themselves to myths and end less genealogies." 1Tim 1:3-4 “As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mighest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather then righteous edifying which is in faith: so do.”

2.Paul was saying it was a serious problem and Timothy was to deal with the matter head on.

B.It is impossible for a man who desires to act right and sincerely live for the Saviour Yahvahosha to do so when his thinking is wrong or based on untrue information.

1.The Judaizers were preaching another Gospel, a Gospel mingled with error.

a.In Acts what made the assembly at the beginning was that "they continued in the apostles doctrines". Acts 2:42, 46

b.The assembly had as a foundation the doctrines of the apostles, fellowship, prayers, and the Saviour’s Memorial.

c.No assembly is a true Assembly of Yahvah if it is not soundly founded in the Doctrine of the Scripture

2."Myths". Ephesus was the home of idol Diana, the temple to Trajan, Hadrian and all these were based on Greek Mythology.

Paul also could be talking about Philo, the Jewish philosopher who spiritualized the Hebrew Scriptures making it all a series of myths instead of the inspired Word of Yahvah.

3.Genealogies: May refer to the false idea that the assembly is not a continuation of Judaism, because it is.

In other words, these Judaizers, were counting on their heritage as Jews to give the position in the assembly and with Yahvah in reference to their salvation.

4.Paul says these things cause confusion because they are not true. In other words they promoted controversy rather than Yahvah's word, which is done in faith. These false teachers were teaching a works salvation instead of salvation by faith.

Righteous edifying means preaching the truth, and Paul says this do!

III.THE GOAL OF THE COMMANDMENT: 1 Tim 1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

A.What is produced in the assembly should be from love and out of a pure heart.

1.The "goal" of commanding him to stop the false teachings was to produce a serve out of love and not from obedience to a act or work, which comes from an unpure heart.

2.So many false teachings today teach you can pre- form some ritual and in this manner please Yahvah and earn Yahvah acceptance.

a.Nothing is further from the truth.
b.This type of false teaching in a real sense gives people a license to sin.
    c. During the week, live as you please as long as you go to assembly on Sabbath (Sat).

3.The Eternal wants us to serve because of a oneness of mind with Him. A Brethren is saved, and comes to the truth.

Knowing the truth as to who Yahvah is and that he loves us and cares for our present and eternal life is good and proper motivation to live for the Saviour.

We serve our of dedication and love which keeps us committed to His will in our lives.

B.Some turn aside in the assembly from the truth and substituted for the majestic truth, vain jangling or meaningless talk.

1.1Tim 1:7 Paul addressed the problem of the many who want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or about the errors they so confidently confirm."

1 Tim 1:7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

2.1Tim 1:8 Paul says the law is good if it is used properly. The law is basically teaching right and wrong. It points out sin and defines what is proper in Yahvah's sight.

1 Tim 1:8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully.

It is a school master, it teaches us what is right and proper. You learn the lesson of the school teacher and then you go on an leave that behind. You don't need to stay in school all your life you come to a time you are on your own.

3.The law defines sin for us. It only says we are sinners in need of salvation. It has not means to save us...it only points out our present condition.

A road map will show you where you are but will not get you to your destination.

C.A person who knows the way and is on the right road does not need a map.

1Tim 1:9-10. Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the unrighteous and for sinners, for unrighteous and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine.

1.The law are rules to define what is a wrong and in the Scripture a sin. Civil law defines what is unacceptable behavior and assigns a penalty for breaking the law. The law against murder has no hold on a man who doesn't have murder in his heart. The same applies to all civil and spiritual laws. The law is good as Paul says because it defines what is wrong.

1Tim 1:8 For some it is the threat of the law that keeps them from breaking the law.

2.However, if a believer's only motive for living right is being afraid of Yahvah's wrath that is a poor reason. A believer who is spiritual will living willing doing that which is right. They do so because they know right from wrong and that doing wrong is destructive. Most of all they realize it dishonors the Messiah and that He had to suffer for all our sins 2000 years ago on the Stake. This is what Paul was talking about in 1 Co 11:29. We should be thankful for Messiah's suffering and sacrifice for us and with a discerning spirit not cause Him more suffering because of our callousness in willingly sinning.

1 Co 11:29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Messiah’s body.

3.Paul lists a series of gross sins in which the lawless indulge. He concludes saying that it is lawlessness to do anything contrary to sound doctrine. This statement strikes at the heart of the modern thinking that doctrine is not important. Sound doctrine means correct doctrine, which must be without error. Repeated the Scripture statements leave no room for the compromising of Yahvah's word or ignoring its teachings. A Brother/Sister is not above the law only as long as he lives.  To entertain any false doctrine is to become lawless and outside Yahvah's will.

4.Sadly there are many popular preachers on television and who write books who teach unsound doctrines. Many are very respected men who have a large audience. One of the most popular ones was on the radio this week teaching the false teaching of Calvinism which distorts the very nature of Almighty Yahvah and His sovereignty of Yahvah and the doctrine of election. Others compromise Yahvah's teaching on the His plan for the propagation of the Gospel through the local assembly. The child of Yahvah must be careful who he listens to and what he supports. Paul was warning young Timothy of the pitfalls of false teaching that could easily slip into an assembly
