| Sunday, Apr 14, 2013 "A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth. Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge." Proverbs 14:6-7 In his parable written in the 1920s about wise money management, George Samuel Clason tells the story of a young man named Arkad who desired to learn the secrets of wealth. He arranged a bargain with a rich man in Babylon, who agreed to teach him the principles he needed to know to succeed. Once Arkad began following those principles, he began to accumulate wealth. Looking to expand his resources, Arkad gave the money he had been saving to a bricklayer who was supposed to use it to buy jewels to resell at a profit. But the bricklayer was swindled by dishonest merchants who sold him worthless pieces of glass. When he told this story to his mentor, Arkad was rebuked for trusting someone without knowledge. “About brickmaking he gives good advice,” Arkad later ruefully concluded. When we try to learn from those who do not have knowledge and wisdom, we end up worse off than we were when we started. Those who learn from fools will simply become more foolish. There are many people in our world who are highly credentialed with all sorts of degrees and honors, who despite their learning are still utterly foolish in the eyes of God. As Bob Jones Sr. said, “Education without God makes men clever devils.” There is no source of true wisdom apart from God. Psalm 1:1 says, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Both in matters relating to spiritual things and those that deal with the daily issues of life, we should be listening only to those with godly wisdom. Today’s Proverbs Precept:
Be sure that you are only listening to those who are instructing you in godly wisdom.
CHAPTER 251 And Samuel died; and all the Israelites were gathered together, and lamented him, and buried him in his house at Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of Paran. 2 And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel. 3 Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb. 4 And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal did shear his sheep. 5 And David sent out ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name: 6 And thus shall ye say to him that liveth in prosperity, Peace be both to thee, and peace be to thine house, and peace be unto all that thou hast. 7 And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy shepherds which were with us, we hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them, all the while they were in Carmel. 8 Ask thy young men, and they will shew thee. Wherefore let the young men find favour in thine eyes: for we come in a good day: give, I pray thee, whatsoever cometh to thine hand unto thy servants, and to thy son David. 9 And when David's young men came, they spake to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased. 10 And Nabal answered David's servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? there be many servants now a days that break away every man from his master. 11 Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give it unto men, whom I know not whence they be? 12 So David's young men turned their way, and went again, and came and told him all those sayings. 13 And David said unto his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the stuff. 14 But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife, saying, Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to salute our master; and he railed on them. 15 But the men were very good unto us, and we were not hurt, neither missed we any thing, as long as we were conversant with them, when we were in the fields: 16 They were a wall unto us both by night and day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep. 17 Now therefore know and consider what thou wilt do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him. 18 Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched corn, and an hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on asses. 19 And she said unto her servants, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal. 20 And it was so, as she rode on the ass, that she came down by the covert of the hill, and, behold, David and his men came down against her; and she met them. 21 Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained unto him: and he hath requited me evil for good. 22 So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall. 23 And when Abigail saw David, she hasted, and lighted off the ass, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, 24 And fell at his feet, and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me let this iniquity be: and let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak in thine audience, and hear the words of thine handmaid. 25 Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thine handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou didst send. 26 Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing the LORD hath withholden thee from coming to shed blood, and from avenging thyself with thine own hand, now let thine enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal. 27 And now this blessing which thine handmaid hath brought unto my lord, let it even be given unto the young men that follow my lord. 28 I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thine handmaid: for the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the LORD, and evil hath not been found in thee all thy days. 29 Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling. 30 And it shall come to pass, when the LORD shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel; 31 That this shall be no grief unto thee, nor offence of heart unto my lord, either that thou hast shed blood causeless, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thine handmaid. 32 And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me: 33 And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand. 34 For in very deed, as the LORD God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall. 35 So David received of her hand that which she had brought him, and said unto her, Go up in peace to thine house; see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and have accepted thy person. 36 And Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken: wherefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light. 37 But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. 38 And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died. 39 And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD, that hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hath kept his servant from evil: for the LORD hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and communed with Abigail, to take her to him to wife. 40 And when the servants of David were come to Abigail to Carmel, they spake unto her, saying, David sent us unto thee, to take thee to him to wife. 41 And she arose, and bowed herself on her face to the earth, and said, Behold, let thine handmaid be a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord. 42 And Abigail hasted, and arose, and rode upon an ass, with five damsels of hers that went after her; and she went after the messengers of David, and became his wife. 43 David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel; and they were also both of them his wives. 44 But Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Phalti the son of Laish, which was of Gallim.
CHAPTER 261 And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon? 2 Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. 3 And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. 4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed. 5 And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him. 6 Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee. 7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him. 8 Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time. 9 And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD'S anointed, and be guiltless? 10 David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish. 11 The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go. 12 So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them. 13 Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them: 14 And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king? 15 And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord. 16 This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD'S anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster. 17 And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king. 18 And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand? 19 Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods. 20 Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains. 21 Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly. 22 And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it. 23 The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed. 24 And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation. 25 Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; 36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. 37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. 38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. 39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. 40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not. 41 Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all? 42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? 43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. 45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. 47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. 49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? 50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! 51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. 53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 54 And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is. 55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass. 56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time? 57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right? 58 When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison. 59 I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.
1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. 2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him. 3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them. 4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox. 5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies. 6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth. 7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge. 8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit. 9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour. 10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy. 11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish. 12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. 13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness. 14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. 15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going. 16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. 17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated. 18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge. 19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous. 20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends. 21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he. 22 Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good. 23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury. 24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly. 25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies. 26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. 27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. 28 In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince. 29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly. 30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones. 31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor. 32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death. 33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known. 34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. 35 The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame. |
But Yahvah is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. 2Th 3:3
How many there are who go through life under a cloud of condemnation! They do not believe Yahvah's word. They have no faith that He will do as He has said. Many who long to see others resting in the pardoning love of Messiah do not rest in it for themselves. but how can they possibly lead others to show simple, childlike faith in the heavenly Father when they measure His love by their feelings?
Let us trust Yahvah's word implicitly, remembering that we are His sons and daughters. Let us train ourselves to believe His word. We hurt the heart of Messiah by doubting when He has given such evidence of His love. He laid down His life to save us. He says to us: "Come unto me...and I will give you rest..." Do you believe He will do as He has said? then, after you have complied with the conditions, carry no longer the burden of your sins. Let it roll upon the Saviour. Trust yourself with Him. Has He not promised to give you rest? But to many He is obliged to say sorrowfully, "Ye will not come to me, that ye might have life." Jn 5:40
Behold Messiah. Dwell upon His love and mercy. This will fill the soul with abhorrence for all that is sinful and will inspire it with an intense desire for the righteousness of Messiah. The more clearly we see the Saviour, the more clearly shall we discern our defects of character. Confess your sins to Messiah, and with true contrition of soul cooperate with Him by putting these sins away. Believe that they are pardoned. The promise is positive, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1 Jn 1:9. Be assured that the word of Yahvah will not fail. He who has promised is faithful. It is as much your duty to believe that Yahvah will fulfil His word and forgive you as it is to confess you sins...
Look steadfast to Yahvahosha. Behold Him, of grace and truth. He will make His goodness pass before you while He hides you in the cleft of the rock. You will be enab led to endue the seeing of Him who is invisible, and by holding you will be transformed.
PRAYER: FATHER, WE ARE THANKFUL THAT YOU ARE ALWAYS THERE FOR US. THAT YOU DO NOT SLEEP, TAKE VACATIONS, OR ARE SICK. WE ARE BLESSED THAT WE CAN CALL OUT TOO YOU AND YOUR THERE. WE PUT OUR TRUST, OUR FAITH, AND OUR BEING INTO YOUR HANDS, AND WE LET YOU TAKE CONTROL OF EVERYTHING WE SAY AND WE DO. THANK YOU YAHVAHOSHA. THIS WE PRAY IN YAHVAHOSHA'S MIGHTY NAME, HALLELUYAH! Then did they spit in his face and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, saying Prophesy unto us, thou Messiah, Who smote thee? Mt 26:67-68
And the men that held Yahvahosha mocked him, and smote him. And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him saying, Prophecy, who is it that smote thee? Lk 22:63-64
If we're going to get the full picture of what happened in Caiaphas' chamber that night when the religious leaders were spitting on Yahvahosha and striking Him in the face with their fists, we need to put the pieces of this picture together from both the Gospel of Matthew and Luke.
Lk 22:63 says, "And the men that held Yahvahosha mocked him and smote him." I want you to particularly see the word "mock" in this verse. It comes from the Greek word empaidzo, which meant to place a game. It was often used for playing a game with children or amusing a crowd by impersonating someone in a silly and exaggerated way. For instance, this word might be used in a game of charades when someone intends to comically portray someone or even make fun of someone. This gives us an important piece of the story that Matthew didn't include in his Gospel account.
Even before He had to endure spitting and vicious beating of the scribes and elders that night. Yahvahosha was also severly beaten by "the men that held" him. This doesn't refer to the scribes and elders, but to the temple police and guards who kept watch over Yahvahosha before Caiaphas examined Him.
In addition to everything else tat was going on that night, these guards decided they would take advantage of the moment too. The Scripture doesn't tell us how these men mimicked and impersonated Yahvahosha that night, bujt the use of the Greek word empaidzo categorically lets us know that these men turned a few minutes of that nightmarish night into a stage of comedy at Yahvahosha expense. They put on quite a show, hamming it up as they almost certainly pretended to be Yahvahosha and the people He ministered to. Perhaps they laid hands on each other as if they were healing the sick; or lay on the floor and quivered, as if they were being liberated from devils; or wobbled around, acting as if they had been blind but now could suddenly see. Whatever these guards did to mock Yahvahosha it was a game of charades to mimic and make fun of Him.
When they were finished making sport of Yahvahosha, Luke tells us that these guards "smogde him." The word "smote" is from the word dero, a word used frequently to refer to the grueling and barbaric practice of beating a slave. This word is so dreadful that it is also often translated to flay, such as to flay the flesh from an animal or human being. The usage of this word tells us that even before the scribes and elders got their hands on Yahvahosha, the guards had already put Him through a terrible ordeal.
Immediately after the guards were finished playing their charades and brutally beating Yahvahosha, the scribes and elders began to spit in His face and whack Him on the head with their fists. But the elders didn't stop there. They blindfolded Yahvahosha and began to strike Him on the head again, taking their humiliation of Him to the next level. This represented Yahvahosha's third beating.
If we only read Luke's account we might conclude that this third beating was also at the hands of the guards. However, when we compare and connect Luke's account with Matthew's account, it becomes clear that by this time Yahvahosha had already been transferred into the hands of Caiaphas and his scribes and elder. When we read next in Lk 22:64 occurred after these religious leaders had already spit on Him and hit Him Mt 22:67.
Lk 22:64 says "And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? The word "blindfold" comes from the Greek word perikalupto which means to wrap a veil or garment about someone, thus hiding his eyes so he can't see. We don't know where the blindfold came from. It could have been a piece of Yahvahosha's own clothing or a garment borrowed from one of the scribes and elders. But by the time they finished wrapping Yahvahosha's head in that cloth, He was completely blinded form seeing what was happening around him.
Just as the guards played charades at Yahvahosha's expense,now Caiaphas with the scribes and elders play blindman's bluff at His expense! Once Yahvahosha was blindfolded, "they struck him on the face." The word "struck" is from the Greek word paio, which describes a strike that stings. A more precise translation might be "they slapped him on the face." This is the reason the Greek word paio was used, for it referred to a slap that caused a terrible sting.
After slapping Yahvahosha, the scribes and elders would badget Him, saying "...Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?" Here we find that these so-called religious leaders got so caught up in their sick behavior that they sadistically enjoyed the pain they were putting Yahvahosha through. They slapped Him over and over again, tell Him, "Come prophet! If You're so good at prophesying and knowing things supernaturally, tell us which one of us just slapped You!"
Finally, Lk 22:65 tells us, "And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.' The word blasphemy is from the Greek word blasphemeo, meaning to slander; to accuse; to speak against; to speak derogatory words for the purpose of injuring or harming one's reputation. It also signifies profane, foul, unclean language.
So now let me ask you two questions:
Are you serious in your relationship with Yahvahosha Messiah, or are you, like those who held Him that night simply playing games with Him?
When other people start playing around with your mind and emotions, are you able to follow Yahvahosha's example by holding your peace and loving them in spite of the torture they are putting you through?
Why don't you open your heart right now and let the Holy Ghost shine His majestic light into the crevices of your soul? Allow Him to reveal those areas of your life where you need to get to work!
PRAYER: YAHVAH, I NEVER WANT TO PLAY GAMES WITH YOU. I AM ASKING YOU RIGHT NOW TO FORGIVE ME FOR ANY TIME THAT I HAVE LIED TO YOU AND TO MYSELF, DECEIVING MYSELF INTO BELIEVING THAT THINGS WERE ALL RIGHT IN MY LIFE HEN, IN FACT THEY WERE NOT INWARDLY GOOD AT ALL. PLEASE SHINE YOUR LIGHT DEEP INTO MY SOUL TO SHOW ME ANY AREAS OF MY LIFE THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. AND YAHVAH, I ALSO ASK THAT YOU GIVE ME A STRONG DESIRE TO READ THROUGH ALL FOUR GOSPELS SO I MIGHT BETTER KNOW THE LIFE OF YAHVAHOSHA AND HOW I CAN BE MORE LIKE HIM. THIS I PRAY IN THE NAME OF YAHVAHOSHA MESSIAH. HALLELUYAH! Bro. Doc
Management LessonA crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?". The crow answered: Sure, why not." So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it. Management Lesson? To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up. |
VacationDarla had applied for a job and when she returned home, her mother asked how the interview went. "Pretty good, I think," replied Darla, "but if I go to work there I won't get a vacation until I'm married." Her mother, of course, had never heard of such a thing. "Is that what they told you?" "No", replied Darla, "but right on the application it said 'vacation time may not be taken until you've had your First Anniversary.'" |

The Ring BearerA little boy was in a relative's wedding. As he was coming down the aisle he would take two steps, stop, and turn to the crowd (alternating between bride's side and groom's side). While facing the crowd, he would put his hands up like claws and roar. So it went, step, step, ROAR, step, step, ROAR all the way down the aisle. As you can imagine, the crowd was near tears from laughing so hard by the time he reached the pulpit. The little boy, however, was getting more and more distressed from all the laughing, and was also near tears by the time he reached the pulpit. When asked what he was doing, the child sniffed and said, "I was being the Ring Bear." |

Messiah’s Message to us through the Apostle Peter is:
1. A clear WARNING to steadfast chosen to hold fast;
2. Explanations/instructions on how (a formula) to hold fast;
3. Explanations/warnings concerning the characteristics of the
“former chosen” who had left the Assembly Congregations – or were still attending - BUT who really had become enemies;
4. Explanations of how Yahvah still held out hope that these “former chosen” would turn back to Him (Prodigal sons & daughters);
5. Dire warning from Messiah to these erring Chosen to what lay in store for them if they continued with their wickedness;
6. Encouragement to the steadfast Chosen. With this very important background, let us now work through this Epistle to US. Because it holds vital information for us who are living in these last days; As we are also experiencing a falling away from the Truth, and; Most everything Peter has been inspired to write in this Epistle applies 100% to the situation we as Messiah’s steadfast Chosen are facing today. (Please note that in Peter’s time things were happening more openly, where-as today many attacks against the Sheep are done far more subtly by Satan).
Introduction and Greetings:
2 Peter 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Yahvahosha Messiah, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of Yahvah and our Saviour Yahvahosha Messiah:
Comment: A greeting from the Apostle to the Chosen, reminding them that their faith is from and in our Yahvah and Saviour Yahvahosha Messiah. So HE who is for us is greater that Satan who is against us.
Note that Peter is not writing to a specific Congregation or COG at some or other city. He is writing to the steadfast Chosen everywhere. The word righteousness simple means “doing what is right”. May man decide for himself what is right and wrong? No, man does not have that capability (and of course was not supposed to stretch out his hand to take of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil).
Only Yahvah may (and can) decide what is good and evil. The Eternal defines what is good because THEY personify LOVE, and therefore the Law we must strive to keep in terms of the Restored Covenant is THEIR Law of LOVE (The success we attain in our efforts to keep the Law of Love is termed to be “the righteousness of the Chosen”).
The following commandment of Messiah illustrates the all-encompassing extent of the Law of Love, and aptly shows how this Spiritual Law (Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin ) by far transcends the Hebrew Scriptures Physical 10 Commandments, when Messiah says: “Matthew 5:44 But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you, Matthew 5:45 That ye
may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
2 Peter 1:2 Unmerited Favor and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of Yahvah and of Yahvahosha our Saviour,
Comment: Peter emphasizes our knowledge in the Truth, and the importance of unmerited favor and having peace (survival tools). Is the importance of unmerited favor ever mentioned in your particular congregation?
2 Peter 1:3 According as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and righteousness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to majesty and virtue,
Comment: We are reminded of Messiah’s POWER (the Holy Ghost) and the knowledge we have received via the Holy Ghost, which has adequately equipped us for survival in this life as we strive for righteousness (by keeping the Law of Love we will become more and more like Yahvah is, namely Love Personified, which is perfection).
From other scripture we also know that Messiah will never leave us nor forsake us.
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have for he hath said, I will never leave thee nor for sake thee.
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Yahvahosha Messiah.
So if something goes wrong – whose fault is it? As a Minister used to say “If Yahvah feels far from you, ask yourself the question - who moved?
2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Comment: We are reminded of God’s promises to us and our incredible REWARD which we must keep in mind to survive and win
2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. And what is that reward? It is to become part of Yahvah’s Family.
1 John 3:2 Beloved, now we are sons of Yahvah, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
Do you still earnestly desire to become like Yahvah is, namely a perfect person overflowing with LOVE? Differently stated – do you desire to become LOVE PERSONIFIED? That is what Peter means when he says that: “you might be partakers of the divine nature”.
Formula to survive and make it into the kingdom of Yahvah
2 Peter 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
2 Peter 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience righteousness
2 Peter 1:7 And to righteousness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity (love).
Comment: “Bringing in all diligence”, Peter says. Other translations use the words “all earnestness” & “So don't lose a minute in building on what you've been given” & “make every effort” & “employing all care”. Yes, there is effort and work and diligence and backbone and “stick-to-it-iveness” involved.
Now Peter lists the characteristics/qualities (Survival Tools) that we must make every effort to acquire:
1. Faith;
2. Moral Character;
3. Knowledge;
4. Self-control;
5. Endurance (patience);
6. Righteousness;
7. Brotherly kindness;
8. Love
(Note their correlation with the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians & Ephesians)
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith,
Galatians 5:23 meekness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Ephesians 5:9 for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.
The 10 Commandments (Hebrew Scriptures) are not even mentioned here! But it does not mean they are done away with.
When we read about the Law that must be kept under the Restored Covenant, in most cases the reference is to the Law of Love, and it still tells us here in the Restored Covenant that the Ten Commandments are not done away with as so taught, and which is “The Perfect Law”. The Pharisees were keeping the 10 Commandments and the Law of Moshe, and what did Messiah have to say about that:
Matthew 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Exceeding means keeping the Higher Law of Love (which of course includes the 10 Commandments, because the 10 Commandments is an extract from the law of love. Differently stated, the 10 Commandments is a small slice out of the Law of Love).
2 Peter 1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Saviour Yahvahosha Messiah.
Comment: Again we have a reference from Peter to a trait/problem that the Chosen of his day were experiencing, and that the End-Time Chosen of today are also experiencing. Let us look at the Greek word for “idle” as used here by Pater.
Argos: Thayer Definition:
1) Free from labour, at leisure
2) Lazy, shunning the labour which one ought to perform.
Unfortunately, this trait is prevalent amongst the Chosen today. Many of Yahvah’s Chosen have become idle and lazy, more often than not in proportion to their disillusionment with “The Assembly”. Many minds have become lazy and idle, because they allow the shepherds to do their thinking for them. Others simply do not do any personal Scripture Study. They are happy to read Article upon Article from their Organization, but mostly this “food” is the same over and over again. Therefore these things that Peter is mentioning and the resultant fruits do not abound in Chosen who are like this. So Peter is giving a warning to them, and trying to motivate them to get their houses in order and start to perform and become diligent again. This is a warning to all of us!
Peter here emphasizes that these characteristics of Yahvah are essential to staying the course, and becoming like Yahvah is, which is the ultimate goal Messiah sets for us.
Matthew 5:48 Be (future tense = become) ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect).
2 Peter 1:9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Comment: If one lacks these qualities, you become blinded and shortsighted. (Warning!!!) ANOTHER RESULT OF THIS BLINDNESS IS ALSO OFTEN SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Self-righteousness leads to thinking that you are OK WITH YAHVAH, when in fact you are not.
2 Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
Comment: This is the formula for success and WINNING. But ONCE AGAIN Peter shows his concern that the Chosen might not apply themselves diligently to the task, so he warns: “BE DILIGENT” AND Peter states quite clearly that it needs constant effort and work to “make your calling and election sure.”
And then come the words of encouragement and reassurance; “for if you do these things, you shall never fall”
2 Peter 1:11For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Sovereign and Savior Yahvahosha Messiah.
Comment: There you have it. Winning what? Winning “entry into the eternal kingdom of our Sovereign and Savior Yahvahosha Messiah”
1 Peter 1:4 = divine nature To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
Peter now reminds us and seeks to strengthen our faith by emphasizing that he and the other Apostles were eye-witness of “these things”.
2 Peter 1:12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
Comment: Here in 2 Peter 1:12 we see the insight of the Apostle Peter, who realized that the “Present” Truth he had was revealed for his time (unless it was prophetic), and that there would be “Future Truth” so to speak - that would be revealed for the Chosen to follow in other times.
Peter says that he is duty bound to remind them, despite the fact that they are firmly established in the “Present Truth”, especially because he knows he would soon die. So Peter knew that Messiah would add more and more revelation (Truth) to the Chosen (Ekklesia, the “Assembly”) as time went by (for example the Book of Revelation was not even given to John when Peter wrote this Epistle).
Foolishly, most of Yahvah’s people today have fallen for the lies of their shepherds that Messiah restored “All Things” to His People through a COG Minister. This belief enables many shepherds to shoot down anything Messiah wishes to reveal after the death of the Minister.. Prophecy for the End-Times (Daniel 12: 8-10) comes to mind, as well as the entire insights we now have concerning the “Falling Away”, which all took place after the Minister’s death.
Da 12:8-10 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Yahvah, what shall be the end of these things? And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried: but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
All the Shepherds have to make is a snide remark about “Oh! some more so called “New Truth”, and many gullible sheep run for the hills and huddle in fear. These lies are “fables cunningly devised” and the end result is that many of Yahvah’s people have closed their minds to most anything Messiah wants to convey and reveal to them. Foolish virgins, whose “Oil” the Holy Ghost lies dormant within them!
2 Peter 1:13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance
2 Peter 1:14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this tabernacle, even as our Saviour Yahvahosha Messiah hath shewed me..
2 Peter 1:15 Moreover I will endeavor that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. (2 Peter 3:1 The second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance.).
2 Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made know unto you the power and coming of our Saviour Yahvahosha Messiah, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
2 Peter 1:17 For he received from Yahvah the Father honour and majesty, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent majesty, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
2 Peter 1:18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the righteous mount.
2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your heart.
Comment: Peter here refers to the Words by the voice from heaven they the Apostles were privileged to heard; but he confirms that the Chosen have a more sure Word that they must hear to strengthen their faith – namely the Word of Prophecy. Peter says that the Chosen faith has been established on solid ground, namely the prophecies of the Hebrew Scripture concerning Yahvahosha Messiah, and the personal eye-witness accounts of the Apostles. Peter goes on to list various incidents the Apostles eye-witnesses proving that Yahvahosha Messiah is the Son of Yahvah.
Peter then goes on to point out that there is further prophecy to be revealed that we need to take heed (note) of – prophecy right up to the very End “until the day dawns and the Daystar arises in your hearts”.
2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man; but righteous men of Yahvah spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Comment: Peter in these verses proclaims that the prophecies also are from Yahvah by the Holy Ghost, and are therefore also Truth about Yahvahosha Messiah and all the things surrounding Him, AND can also therefore strengthen their faith.

| Saturday, Apr 13, 2013 "The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat." Proverbs 13:4 A city dweller traveled far into the country to visit a distant relation. He found his second cousin sitting on the stump of a tree. “How have things been?” he wanted to know. “Not bad at all,” the country dweller replied. “I was going to have to cut down all these trees, but a cyclone blew through and saved me the trouble.” “That’s amazing,” the city man said. “But there’s more,” the countryman said. “There was a huge pile of brush I needed to clear, and lightning set fire to it and burned it all up.” “That’s remarkable,” the visitor exclaimed. “What are you doing now?” “Waiting for an earthquake to come along and shake the potatoes out of the ground!” Hard work as a virtue has fallen out of favor in our society. The trend is toward people working fewer and fewer hours, and not working as hard in those hours as they once did. Many are looking for loopholes to avoid work altogether. More people have been added to the Social Security disability payment system than have gotten jobs in recent years. Certainly there are some people who cannot work because of injury or illness, but a great number of these cases are people whose disability is very hard to define. It may not be in fashion, but God still expects His people to work. “Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work” (Exodus 20:9). When we do not work, we lose the provision that labor provides. Many people wish they had more—a nicer home, a newer car, or better clothes. Yet most people stay stuck in the wishing stage instead of finding a way to work harder to provide for what they need. Today’s Proverbs Precept:
Rather then wishing for things and not having them, we should be working to provide for our needs and our families.
CHAPTER 221 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him. 2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men. 3 And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me. 4 And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold. 5 And the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth. 6 When Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree in Ramah, having his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him;) 7 Then Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds; 8 That all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that sheweth me that my son hath made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or sheweth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day? 9 Then answered Doeg the Edomite, which was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub. 10 And he enquired of the LORD for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine. 11 Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests that were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king. 12 And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord. 13 And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast enquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day? 14 Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all thy servants as David, which is the king's son in law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honourable in thine house? 15 Did I then begin to enquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more. 16 And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house. 17 And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not shew it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD. 18 And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod. 19 And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword. 20 And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David. 21 And Abiathar shewed David that Saul had slain the LORD'S priests. 22 And David said unto Abiathar, I knew it that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house. 23 Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard.
CHAPTER 231 Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors. 2 Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah. 3 And David's men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines? 4 Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand. 5 So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah. 6 And it came to pass, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David to Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand. 7 And it was told Saul that David was come to Keilah. And Saul said, God hath delivered him into mine hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that hath gates and bars. 8 And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men. 9 And David knew that Saul secretly practised mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring hither the ephod. 10 Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul seeketh to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake. 11 Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy servant. And the LORD said, He will come down. 12 Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver thee up. 13 Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth. 14 And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand. 15 And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life: and David was in the wilderness of Ziph in a wood. 16 And Jonathan Saul's son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God. 17 And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee; and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and that also Saul my father knoweth. 18 And they two made a covenant before the LORD: and David abode in the wood, and Jonathan went to his house. 19 Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon? 20 Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king's hand. 21 And Saul said, Blessed be ye of the LORD; for ye have compassion on me. 22 Go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who hath seen him there: for it is told me that he dealeth very subtilly. 23 See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of Judah. 24 And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon. 25 Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon. 26 And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them. 27 But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Haste thee, and come; for the Philistines have invaded the land. 28 Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Selahammahlekoth. 29 And David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at Engedi.
CHAPTER 241 And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi. 2 Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats. 3 And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave. 4 And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily. 5 And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt. 6 And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD'S anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD. 7 So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way. 8 David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself. 9 And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt? 10 Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee: but mine eye spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he is the LORD'S anointed. 11 Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it. 12 The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee. 13 As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee. 14 After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea. 15 The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand. 16 And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept. 17 And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil. 18 And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not. 19 For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day. 20 And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand. 21 Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house. 22 And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.
1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. 3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. 4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? 7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. 8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: 9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. 10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. 11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: 12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say. 13 And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. 14 And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? 15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. 16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. 22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. 23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. 24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? 25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? 26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? 27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? 29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. 30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. 31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke. 2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence. 3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. 4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. 5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. 6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. 7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. 8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke. 9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. 10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom. 11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. 12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. 13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. 14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. 15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard. 16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly. 17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health. 18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. 19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil. 20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. 21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed. 22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. 23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment. 24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. 25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want. |
